The Vital Link
A Look Back at Our Roots
We’re thrilled to share a special piece of The Vital Link’s history, thanks to long-time reader Barbara Evans.
Barbara generously allowed us access to her treasured copy of the very first edition, dating back to 1982. Though fragile with age, we carefully scanned the pages to preserve this invaluable slice of our community’s story. Simply click through the images below to be transported back in time!
Adding to this exciting rediscovery, we were delighted to hear from Neville Weaver, the original artist behind The Vital Link’s iconic front cover and logo. Remarkably, Neville was just 14 or 15 years old and still in school when he designed the eye-catching artwork. His creative vision continues to inspire our logo today, a testament to the lasting impact of his youthful talent.
While The Vital Link’s look and feel have evolved over the decades, its heart remains firmly rooted in celebrating our community. Reflecting on our journey, it’s wonderful to see how our shared focus has stood the test of time. In fact, the discovery of that very first edition has sparked a bit of nostalgia—so don’t be surprised if you see a crossword making a comeback in an upcoming issue!
Here’s to keeping The Vital Link strong, connected, and ever-inspired by our community.
